Dominican Rep. --Accommodations: Meals
Precautions
Sharing staff have taken precautions in advance to locate safe and affordable meal choices for teams. The food is always good, though occasional stomach upset is common for some team members who are traveling here for the first time. Precautions should always be taken to use hand sanitizer before every meal. You can never fully trust ice, but in this location and especially at the hotel and at the Crossroads Retreat Center we have had few problems.
Pier Giorgio Hotel Breakfast
Teams eat breakfast at the hotel. It is an American/English style breakfast with made-to-order eggs, selection of other hot breakfast items, and fresh juices. Local fruits are also on the buffet. The restaurant has an excellent reputation locally and has a high standard of good hygiene practice. It has been selected because of the lower risks of health problems and is one of the reasons Sharing teams lodge with the hotel.
Crossroads Breakfast
Crossroads staff prepare breakfast each morning with team members pitching in to serve and clean up. Food is delicious with creations that you probably have not had before, but will leave you with the desire to learn the recipe. Food prepared at the Crossroads is done so in a clean facility that exceeds most local establishments.
Lunch
Lunches are catered by a local restaurant to the worksite. They are hot meals made at the Parada del Norte Cafe where the clean environment helps insure safe and clean food preparation. Leftover food is distributed to families in the village. Meals are taken out of site in the church building out of sensitivity to those who have so little. If you have the desire to order meals for families you have met, check with Sharing staff to arrange this.
Evening Meals in Town
The evening meal is usually taken at one of the local restaurants, walking distance from the hotel. These meals are above average and are ordered in advance to eliminate much of the long wait time so common with larger groups like ours. They cost Sharing a little more, but are safer than other options. Fish, Pizza, and chicken are creatively prepared with local dishes that are tastefully and inexpensively served.
Evening Meals at the Retreat Center
Meals are served in a beautiful overlook. With open walls and windows whose views fall away to the valley far below and the evening sunset glowing on the hills, you get the impression that you are in another world and another time.
