Dominican Rep. --Accommodations: Security
National and Local
While we recognize there are always security concerns in any missions location, the Dominican Republic is currently the safest location we are working in. This is because of a high percentage of tourist operators and a fairly well organized infra-structure. The nation is struggling with electical power outages, and hurricanes, but the government, both national and local has been relatively stable. For an up-to-date report check with the U.S. STATE DEPT.
Pier Giorgio Hotel
The Pier Giorgio caters to the overnighting airline captains and stewardesses of international flights. The Hotel has a good reputation for security. There is a Hotel clerk at the desk throughout the night as well as a security guard on hand. The owner lives on the premisis.
The building and grounds are built on a tall cliff overlooking the sea. There is no easy access to the building except through the front reception area. Phones are located in every room and the Sharing staff reside with teams on location. Safes are provided in each room and are an optional expense for any team member that would like to use them.
Crossroads Retreat Center
The entrance to Crossroads is a quarter mile from the actual facility at the bottom of the ridge. A locked gate bars most traffic from entering. This is a Christian facility run by Christians and is remotely located away from most local residents. There are no locks on the doors...and if you ask Jana she will tell you it is because they are not needed. Nevertheless, if you have items of value that you would like to put on safekeeping, speak to Jana in person.
