Story: Hinges Shoes & Souls
Listen: Download the mp3
Who would imagine the sole of a shoe could be used as a door hinge? It’s another world in the Dominican Republic where Haitian refugees scramble for life every day.
Never enough food. Never enough shelter. That’s why even the bottom of a shoe is a valuable commodity. Nailed to a door and frame here in Ascension village, old shoes are used to their full potential.
Imagine the excitement of a church construction team visiting Ascension village where the smallest efforts make a difference. Sharing Teams build basic houses for those who live in poverty. With concrete floors and inside toilet, these shelters are saving lives.
Upon entering their new home, one thankful family asked cheerfully:
“How many others will be sharing this home with us?’”
You see, in the dwellings of the poor, every spare inch is used to shelter the perishing, but this home belongs to this family alone since everyone in the new
village is provided enough space to start a new life.
Even old shoe soles are precious in the Dominican Republic. But teams are saving souls of a different kind… through words and actions… one soul at a time. And our lives are changed forever in the process! Join us soon in the Dominican Republic and experience the transformation. Or you can sponsor a home for a poor family for just $3000. 100% will go directly to its construction.
