Meeting New Friends
At times you have the chance to meet new friends in local communities. In our home environment, it can be awkward to "meet strangers," especially those from a different cultural background. But here, it is a different story. Even homes are opened up to us with enthusiasm. People respect the fact that you come from so far away. They usually already know why we come. They know we are involved in a Christian work to help their community.
Encouraging Communities
Normally, no matter what the beliefs of the person you are talking to, they greatly appreciate your prayers on behalf of their family for any needs they may have. That's one of the positive things about our teams. We help anyone we can who is in need, no matter what their background or beliefs are.
Some training on how to communicate your own faith journey in a culturally sensitive way is given by Sharing staff. Also, team members who have been believers for a while help us share our faith with new friends we meet.
