Liberia Country Information:
Current Status
Liberia has been a nation in turmoil for over a decade. Torn by civil war and upheavals that come from such struggle, the people here suffer on a scale that is difficult to imagine. Currently a nation with little infrastructure, little food, and few resources, hope fades away for many. Now is the time to make a difference, especially for the children who represent the hope for the future.
NEWS FROM LIBERIA
Overview
Located in West Africa, this is a nation of contrasts. Liberia was birthed in the 1800’s by freed slaves arriving from the United States, and they see themselves, even today, as the 51st state of the USA. Natural beauty can still be found, though destruction of the capital of Monrovia, and war rubble make it hard to find. The climate is excellent for agriculture. It is very lush. The potential for people to grow their own food is good. There is hope on the horizon...
Local Outreach Area
There had been non-existent or sparse electricity and running water for fourteen years. In July of 2006 electricity came on in some areas. The power plants were completely destroyed in the war, but are slowly being brought back on line. Our staff with ORPHAN RELIEF AND RESCUE are partnering with children’s homes to make a difference. Sharing Teams can help with some of the construction of these homes.
