Liberia Project Information: Medical
Current Situation
Upon discovery of homeless children living in the care of concerned community leaders, one finds a heart-breaking situation--people full of compassion, wanting to help children who are literally dying, but with no way to help. The saddest part is resources are nearly non-existant.
In some cases immediate medical care is needed just to save children from advanced stages of strarvation and malnutrition. Sometimes they are listless and laying on the ground. One doctor stated, "If I were back home, I would admit 80% of these kids to the hospital immediately."
Basic Needs
Besides building basic sanitary conditions into homes. such as improved pit latrines, shower facilities, and good water storage, our staff work to identify emergency care needs, as well as chronic needs of the children.
Goals
While our first priority is to house children in a safe environment, Orphan Relief and Rescue works to:
- Meet emergency needs by connecting them with partner organizations who provide care.
- Sharing International is also able to bring in health care teams into some situations where there is a good local parnter, though these teams have primarily worked in Central America. If you have a medical team that would like to help, please contact SHARING.
- We strive to find an organization or hospital that will give free medical treatment to these children as needed. (The health of the children will be the responsibility of them after our initial clinics are complete.)
